Added support for Windows Mobile 2003 Removed support for Windows CE 2.11 and Windows CE HPC Pro 2.11 Added enhancements to increase the stability and performance of the serial driver. 2.0 Windows CE FILE LOCATION The following files are copied when the Dual Serial I/O Drivers are installed on to the Windows directory on the Windows CE or Windows Mobile device. \Windows DIO_HS.dll HiSpeedCOMTools.cpl TPLDIO.BIN TPLDIOH.BIN TPLDIOHL.BIN TPLDIOL.BIN serial_Advanced.htp serial_BaudMap.htp serial_COM_Assign.htp serial_ConfigureDIO.htp serial_HowToMap.htp serial_MaxBaud.htp serial_overview.htp serial_top.htc \Windows\help: Socket Serial IO Products.lnk 3.0 RELEASE NOTES This Readme.txt applies to the Dual Serial software. 3.1 Hi-Speed COM Tools information Socket’s Hi-Speed COM Tools for Windows CE and Windows Mobile has two main screens, Ports and Advanced, and one optional screen, OS Configuration if you happen to have an older serial card that needs to be reconfigured. (Older serial cards will not work with the Hi-speed software). When using the Hi-Speed serial card, the Ports screen allows you to identify the COM port number(s) assigned to your Dual Serial I/O (D-I/O) Card. You can use the Advanced screen to program a device to work at non-standard baud rates (up to 921 kbps with the Hi-Speed serial card) not normally available in Windows CE applications. The Hi-Speed Dual Serial Cards can be identified by the rev letter on the back of the card. The following cards are Hi-Speed Dual Serial Cards and are capable of transmitting data up to 921 Kbps. PC Card with Removable Cable 8510-00054 Rev K or later 8010-00057 Rev K or later PC Card with Ruggedized cable 8510-00092 Rev F or later 8510-00182 Rev F or later 8510-00077 Rev F or later 3.2 Pocket PC Devices Not Supported The following Pocket PC devices are not supported by the Socket Dual I/O serial Hi-Speed drivers. Casio - Cassiopeia: E-115, E-125, IT-700, BE-300 Compaq Aero - 1500, 2100 HP - Jornada 680, 690, and 820 Others- Vadem Clio and Fujitsu Tablet, NEC Mobile pro CE 2.11 or lower 3.3 Using More than one Socket Serial Product If you happen to have more than one of the following Socket products that include the Hi-Speed COM Tools, you must install the software related to each product. To ensure that you have available the latest version of the Hi-Speed COM Tools, install the most updated software version last. Hi-Speed Serial I/O Card Hi-Speed Dual Serial I/O Card Hi-Speed Quad Serial I/O Card Hi-Speed Digital Phone Card Whatever software is installed last will override the previously installed Hi-Speed COM Tools software. Any enhancements or updates included in the latest version of the software will be available to the user when installed. However, if you install an older software version on top of the most updated version of software, the old software will override and whatever was offered in the latest version for Hi-Speed COM Tools will not be available. Each of the above products will work as long as you install the corresponding software. To determine which software is the latest, refer to the Readme. The Readme will include the Rev letter and date. 3.4 Using the Hi-Speed Dual Serial Card with an Older I/O Card In some situations, the Hi-Speed Dual Serial card may not work with an older serial I/O card simultaneously. 4.0 Windows CE UNINSTALL PROCEDURES Microsoft ActiveSync offers several options for uninstalling applications on your Windows CE or Windows Mobile device (e.g. Pocket PC, HPC 2000). Option 1: To Uninstall Directly on your Pocket PC using the Remove Program. a). Please close the Dual Serial I/O Software and remove the card. Failure to do this will prevent completion of the uninstall process. b). Tap on the START menu c). Tap on SETTINGS d). Tap on the SYSTEM Tab or CONTROL PANEL e). Double or single tap on the REMOVE PROGRAMS icon f). Tap on (Select) the line that says "Socket Serial IO Hi-Speed Utilites" g). Tap on REMOVE h). Tap on YES to confirm removal of the program Option 2: To Uninstall from your Host PC If your Windows CE device is currently connected to your desktop machine. Follow these steps on your host PC: a). Please close the Dual Serial I/O software and remove the card. Failure to do this will prevent completion of the uninstall process. b). Establish a connection between your Windows CE device and Host PC c). Open Microsoft ActiveSync d). Select TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS e). Highlight " Socket Dual Serial Hi-Speed Utilities" f). Click REMOVE g). Select OK to confirm removal of the software on your mobile device h). Click NO in the next dialog to prevent the software from being removed from your Host PC. Regardless of which of these two methods you use to uninstall the Dual Serial I/O Software, you will be able to re-install the software on your Windows CE device by simply going back into Microsoft ActiveSync, TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS window, and select the check box for desired application. Option 3: To completely uninstall the Dual Serial IO software from both your mobile device and your Host PC a). Please close the Dual Serial I/O Software and remove the card. Failure to do this will prevent completion of the uninstall process. b). Establish a connection between your Windows CE device and Host PC c). Open Microsoft ActiveSync d). Select TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS e). Highlight "Socket Dual Serial Hi-Speed Utilites" f). Click REMOVE g). Select OK to confirm removal of the software on your mobile device h). Click YES in the next dialog to confirm removing the software from your Host PC. i). Click OK twice to close each respective dialog box or window This process will remove the Dual Serial I/O Software from both your Windows CE device and Host PC and will require you to re-install the program from the Installation CD. 5.0 TECHNICAL SUPPORT INFORMATION If you have trouble installing or using the Dual Serial I/O Card, please refer to the “Troubleshooting” section of the User’s Guide.
